The Center for Cyber Security and Emerging Technologies(CCS&ET) at Bowie State University provides educational, research and training opportunities in network and information security to both students and faculty. CCS&ET also engages in outreach to the broader community. It embodies the joint efforts of the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Management Information Systems at BSU.

BSU ranks first in the Nation in graduating African Americans with a Master’s degree in computer and information technology. Bowie State University has been accredited by the Middle States AssoCCS&ETtion of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Higher Education since 1961. The Dept. of Computer Science is accredited under the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), and the College of Business under the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). These efforts are an affirmation to our commitment to the long-term success of information assurance.
Our Information Assurance ProgramsThe Department of Computer Science offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Technology (CTEC) with a concentration in computer and network security. It also offers several graduate courses in information assurance. The principle objective of the Computer and Network Security track is to provide a strong foundation in computer security principles, as well as practical hands-on experience. The department’s cyber security instructional and research laboratory is based on a model provided by the West Point Military Academy and is built with equipment generously donated by Cisco Systems. The Department of Management Information Systems offers a master of science in management information systems with a concentration in information assurance. The program prepares students for careers in information assurance and other related information technology fields. The department provides unique learning experiences through virtual laboratories that mimic the work environment of IT professionals. The virtual security laboratories are accessible from anywhere 24/7 by any student who has Internet access and a valid user account.
ResearchFaculty and students are conducting research in computer and network security, privacy and trust. Drs. Seonho Choi, Azene Zenebe and Claude Turner with their students are spearheading this effort. See here for more.
